Seeing trends before they start
Burundi has officially rolled out BurundiPay, a national instant payment platform designed to enable real‑time transfers across bank accounts and mobile wallets. The system is expected to strengthen payment flows across banking, mobile money, and regulated gaming channels, supporting the shift toward faster, more transparent, and traceable digital transactions.
Launched on April 23 by the Central Bank of Burundi (BRB), Governor Edouard Bigendako described BurundiPay as “a decisive step” in the digitisation of the financial sector. Operating 24/7, the platform aims to improve transaction efficiency for individuals, businesses, and regulated industries, including lottery and betting operators.
