Kenya’s Betting and Gaming Taxes Rise to US$247m

Association of Gaming Operators Kenya has revealed that Kenya’s gambling industry generated KSh32 billion (US$247 million) in tax revenue by the end of April 2026, highlighting the sector’s growing economic contribution.
The figure represents a sharp increase from the KSh24 billion recorded during the 2022/23 financial year, reflecting continued expansion within Kenya’s gaming market.

The announcement was made during the iGaming AFRIKA Summit in Nairobi, where regulators, operators, and industry stakeholders gathered to discuss taxation, compliance, and responsible gambling across the sector.

In a LinkedIn statement, AGOK referenced remarks by Kenya Revenue Authority Chief Manager J.W. Otieno, who attributed the growth in revenue to rising customer participation and improved operator compliance.

According to the association, taxes generated from the gaming industry continue to support key public services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development, while helping ease pressure on the country’s broader tax system.

The latest figures further reinforce Kenya’s position as one of Africa’s most commercially significant and rapidly evolving gaming markets.
