LNB Introduces Pre-Launch Responsible Gambling Controls
BENIN- The Benin National Lottery (LNB) has introduced a new Responsible Gambling Policy that requires potential player risks to be assessed and mitigation measures established before new games are launched or existing products are modified.
The 20-page policy, dated September 23, 2026, was published on the LNB website on September 29 and signed by Director General Marius Adanzounon in Cotonou. It applies to the development, modification and launch of LNB games, while also addressing risks associated with gambling channels and emerging technologies.
Under the new framework, responsible gambling considerations must be incorporated into the product-development process. This includes assessing factors such as game format, pace of play, accessibility, stakes and prize structures, as well as risks linked to new technologies and gambling channels.
Where potential risks are identified, appropriate measures must be established before a product is introduced to the market. The policy states that these measures should be proportionate to the risks identified and adapted to the relevant gambling channels.
The policy also requires players to receive clear information about LNB games, how they work, potential risks and available protection or support services.
Underage gambling prevention is another key area, with measures including age verification and controls designed to restrict minors’ access to gambling. LNB also plans to provide responsible-gambling awareness and training for employees and distributors, particularly those who interact directly with players.
Players will also have access to self-exclusion and player-limitation tools, supported by applicable regulations and technical systems.
The framework extends beyond LNB’s internal operations to include distributors, partners and service providers, with responsible-gambling requirements potentially incorporated into contracts, distribution procedures, training and monitoring programmes.
The framework is expected to take effect following approval by LNB’s General Directorate and will be reviewed at least every two years, or earlier if regulatory, operational or emerging risk developments require changes.
