Lagos Gaming Regulator Declares Stake.com Illegal Operator Across 24 States

NIGERIA – The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), in collaboration with the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria (FSGRN), has declared Stake.com’s gaming operations unlawful in Lagos State and across the federation’s 24 member states.

According to a public notice issued by the regulators, Stake.com is not licensed by the LSLGA or any FSGRN member state and has allegedly failed to register, declare, or remit applicable monthly gaming taxes and levies despite receiving at least 10 formal compliance notices over the past two years.

The regulators cited the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s decision in Attorney-General of Lagos State & Ors v. Attorney-General of the Federation & Ors (SC/1/2008), delivered on November 22, 2024, which affirmed the constitutional authority of states to regulate lotteries, betting, and gaming within their jurisdictions.

LSLGA and FSGRN said they are taking appropriate enforcement action against Stake.com, its directors, and other entities found to be facilitating its operations, including payment companies, financial institutions, advertising platforms, and influencers.

The public has been advised to discontinue wagering on Stake.com and patronise only duly licensed gaming operators. Banks, fintech companies, payment service providers, media organisations, and digital advertising platforms have also been urged to conduct due diligence and stop facilitating unlicensed gaming activities.

The regulators reaffirmed their commitment to protecting consumers and minors, maintaining market integrity, and ensuring compliance with state gaming laws and tax obligations.
