Botswana Opens Next Phase of Bingo and Casino Licensing

BOTSWANA- Botswana’s Gambling Authority has opened the next phase of its bingo and casino licensing process with an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting qualified investors to submit proposals for developments across the country. The EOI seeks to assess investor interest and identify companies with the experience and capacity to develop and operate bingo and casino establishments in Botswana.

Proposed casino locations include the Central District, Maun and Kasane/Pandamatenga, while bingo opportunities are available across several districts, including Central, Kweneng, Kgatleng, North-East, South-East, Southern, Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, North-West and Chobe.

Established under the Gambling Act, 2012, the Authority is seeking information on applicants’ ownership structures, industry experience, proposed development concepts, investment and funding plans, implementation timelines, and financial and technical capacity.

Applicants are also expected to outline the potential economic benefits of their proposed developments, including job creation and opportunities for citizen participation. This includes potential citizen shareholding, board and management representation, and employment for Botswana citizens.

The proposed locations have been divided in accordance with the approved Licensing and Location Plan. However, the Authority stressed that submitting an EOI does not constitute a licence application, guarantee participation in a future licensing process or create an entitlement to a licence.

The Authority also reserves the right to amend, suspend or withdraw the EOI at any time.

Interested investors must submit their EOIs and supporting documents electronically by 3pm on October 16, 2026.
