Botswana Regulators Benchmark ISO 9001 Systems

Botswana – Botswana’s Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) has visited the Gambling Authority to benchmark its ISO 9001-certified quality management system.

The visit focused on improving service delivery, compliance and regulatory oversight across sectors linked to legal online gambling and financial services.

ISO 9001 Certification Drives Regulatory Standards

The benchmarking follows the Gambling Authority’s ISO 9001:2015 certification, awarded by the Botswana Bureau of Standards in 2025.

NBFIRA aimed to understand how the Authority implements and maintains its quality management framework.

Officials reviewed key processes such as documentation, internal audits, corrective actions and continuous improvement systems.

Collaboration Supports Stronger Regulatory Oversight

Both regulators exchanged insights on governance, risk management and consumer protection.

The Gambling Authority said the engagement strengthens cooperation and supports more efficient regulatory systems.

It added that collaboration is key to improving oversight in sectors like sports betting and broader online gambling markets.

Focus on Service Delivery and Industry Growth

NBFIRA oversees Botswana’s non-bank financial sector, including insurance, pensions and capital markets.

The Gambling Authority regulates the country’s betting and gaming industry, including emerging areas like esports betting odds and digital platforms.

Both institutions play a critical role in ensuring transparency and protecting consumers in regulated markets.

The benchmarking initiative highlights a shared commitment to improving service standards and supporting sustainable industry growth.
