Botswana Gambling Authority and FIA Strengthen AML Oversight

Share

The Botswana Gambling Authority has opened formal discussions with the Financial Intelligence Agency to strengthen anti-money laundering (AML) oversight and regulatory cooperation within Botswana’s gambling sector.

The high-level meeting, held on Wednesday, May 13, focused on improving collaboration in compliance monitoring, intelligence sharing, research, data management, and the reporting of regulatory breaches across the industry.

According to the Gambling Authority, the engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and financial integrity across licensed gambling operations in Botswana.

With regulators across Africa placing greater scrutiny on AML compliance within the gaming sector, the discussions highlight Botswana’s push toward a more coordinated and proactive regulatory framework.

The move is expected to reinforce public confidence in the country’s gambling industry while positioning both agencies to respond more effectively to emerging financial crime risks.
