Angola Gaming Watchdog Encourages Use of Licensed Betting Platforms

ANGOLA– The Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ), Angola’s gambling regulator, has intensified its responsible gambling awareness campaign by engaging students at the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN), highlighting the dangers of illegal gambling and the importance of informed participation in gaming activities.

The awareness session was held at UCAN’s Palanca Campus in Luanda as part of the university’s Academic Integration Week, an annual event designed to foster discussions on academic, social and developmental issues affecting students and the wider community.

The ISJ delegation was led by Afonso da Silva, Head of the Institute’s Supervision Department, and included Dr. Ediwagner Francisco and Dr. Ricarda, who participated in a panel discussion on the risks associated with illegal gambling and strategies for prevention.

Addressing students during the workshop, Dr. Francisco stressed the need for responsible gaming practices and informed decision-making. He cautioned students against using funds earmarked for essential expenses, such as tuition fees and daily living costs, to participate in gambling activities.

He also advised learners not to allow gambling to interfere with their academic responsibilities and personal development.

Dr. Ricarda focused on the risks posed by unlicensed gambling operators, warning that players who engage with illegal platforms may face greater exposure to fraud, unfair practices and limited avenues for dispute resolution.

She emphasized the importance of adhering to Angola’s gambling regulations and encouraged players to use only gaming platforms licensed and regulated by the ISJ.

According to the regulator, the workshop provided an opportunity to educate students about the legal, economic and social implications of gambling while strengthening collaboration between the institute and the academic community.
