Uganda’s NLGRB Hosts URA Gaming Unit to Strengthen Tax Compliance and Domestic Revenue Mobilisation

Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) hosted an important delegation recently. Officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) Gaming Unit joined the meeting. Commissioner for Domestic Taxes Denis Kugonza Kateeba led the delegation. Together, both parties discussed tax compliance and transparency. They also focused on accountability and domestic revenue mobilisation.

The NLGRB announced this engagement on August 18. The discussions covered several matters of mutual interest. Officials also explored ways to strengthen cooperation across Uganda’s gaming sector.

NLGRB Outlines Discussion Priorities

The NLGRB shared details about the meeting’s core focus areas. “The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in gaming regulation, enhancing tax compliance, and promoting transparency and accountability within Uganda’s gaming sector,” the regulator said.

According to the NLGRB, these partnerships serve an important dual purpose. They help protect public interests effectively across the sector. At the same time, they support sustainable growth within Uganda’s gaming industry. Increased domestic revenue mobilisation remains a key goal as well.

NLGRB Partnership Builds on Earlier Cooperation

This latest engagement doesn’t stand alone. It follows earlier cooperation between the NLGRB and URA on gaming compliance matters. Back in January, two key departments got involved directly. The regulator’s Regulatory Compliance department worked alongside its IT unit. Together, they engaged the URA Gaming Unit on a specific initiative.

This earlier collaboration aimed to operationalise the National Central Electronic Monitoring System (NCEMS). The work covered several technical areas. These included core technical systems and data collection processes. Data sharing and gaming-data access also featured in these discussions.

NLGRB’s NCEMS Strengthens Regulatory Oversight

The NLGRB explained the purpose behind this monitoring system clearly. NCEMS is designed to monitor gaming transactions across the sector. It also supports compliance monitoring and enforcement efforts. Regulatory oversight benefits significantly from this system as well.

Reliable data from NCEMS serves multiple important functions. It helps strengthen regulatory supervision throughout Uganda’s gaming industry. This data also plays a key role in domestic revenue mobilisation efforts. Together, these tools support Uganda’s broader push for stronger gaming sector oversight.
