Sizekhaya Urges Lotto Players to Secure Tickets After $1.2m Jackpot Win in South Africa
South Africa’s National Lottery operator, Sizekhaya, has issued a strong advisory urging Lotto players to protect their prize claims following a major R20m (US$1.2m) jackpot win.
The reminder comes after a single winner secured the R20,082,438.90 jackpot in the July 22 Lotto draw using a ticket purchased via the FNB banking app. In response, Sizekhaya released updated player protection guidelines aimed at helping both retail and digital players safeguard their winnings.
For retail players, the operator emphasised the importance of signing the back of physical Lotto tickets immediately after purchase. Players were also advised to store tickets securely, avoid physical damage and verify results only through official National Lottery platforms before initiating claims.
Digital lottery users were encouraged to prioritise account security by using strong, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication where available. Sizekhaya also highlighted the need for players to keep their contact details updated to ensure seamless communication and timely prize notifications.
The operator confirmed that online winnings of up to R249,999 (US$15,000) can be processed within 72 working hours through electronic payment systems, including direct bank transfers and iLottery wallet payouts. For tickets purchased through banking apps, winnings are paid directly into the player’s registered bank account.
