NLGRB Cracks Down on Unlicensed Gaming Operations

National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has stepped up enforcement against illegal gambling operations, seizing 102 unlicensed gaming machines during a coordinated operation across the districts of Luuka, Mayuge and Kumi.

The crackdown forms part of Uganda’s broader strategy to strengthen regulatory compliance, protect consumers, and uphold the integrity of the country’s gaming industry. According to the regulator, the confiscated machines were operating outside the legal framework, exposing players to unregulated gambling environments without proper safeguards.

The operation highlights the NLGRB’s increasing focus on extending enforcement beyond major urban centres into regional districts, reinforcing that all gaming operators must comply with national licensing requirements regardless of location.

Authorities have reiterated that operators are required to obtain valid licences and adhere to regulatory standards before offering gaming services. Businesses found operating illegally face penalties including equipment seizure, enforcement action, and potential legal sanctions.

The seizure underscores the regulator’s commitment to building a transparent and well-regulated gaming market, while reducing the risks associated with illegal gambling activities. The NLGRB has also urged operators to regularise their operations and comply fully with licensing requirements to avoid further enforcement measures.

The development reflects a wider trend across Africa’s gaming sector, where regulators are intensifying efforts to combat illegal gambling, strengthen oversight, and promote safer gaming environments for consumers.
