Lagos Gaming Authority Calls for Unified African Regulation at iGB LIVE Africa Summit

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has called on African regulators to strengthen collaboration and adopt more coordinated regulatory frameworks to support the sustainable growth of the continent’s gaming industry.

Speaking at the iGB LIVE Africa Summit, organised by the African iGaming Alliance on July 1–2, LSLGA Chief Executive Officer Bashir Are said greater cooperation among regulators would deliver better outcomes than fragmented regulatory approaches.

Are joined fellow industry leaders Lungile Dukwana and Olabimpe Akingba during a panel session titled Towards Cooperative African Gaming Markets: Enabling Growth Through Best Practice, where participants discussed cross-border regulation, consumer protection, taxation, and the future of Africa’s regulated gaming markets.

According to Are, regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders should work together to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and develop regulatory frameworks that protect consumers while fostering innovation and investment.

He also stressed the need for balanced taxation, warning that excessive tax burdens could discourage investment, reduce compliance among licensed operators, and drive consumers toward unregulated markets.

Are noted that effective gaming regulation should strike a balance between generating government revenue, safeguarding players, and creating an environment where licensed operators can compete and grow sustainably.

The discussions formed part of broader conversations at the summit on strengthening regulatory cooperation across Africa as more countries continue to modernise their gaming frameworks and address common industry challenges.
