North West Gambling Board Promotes Youth Entrepreneurship and Responsible Gambling
South Africa’s North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has combined responsible gambling awareness with youth economic empowerment through a public engagement initiative aimed at promoting financial responsibility and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The regulator participated in the Youth Cooperatives and Empowerment Seminar held on June 25, where aspiring entrepreneurs received practical training on establishing and managing sustainable businesses.
The seminar covered cooperative development, access to funding, business incubation, market opportunities, financial management, and regulatory compliance. Participants were encouraged to adopt sound financial practices and build enterprises founded on accountability, resilience, and long-term sustainability.
Alongside the entrepreneurship programme, the NWGB delivered responsible gambling awareness sessions, urging participants to understand the risks associated with gambling and to ensure that gambling activities do not negatively affect their businesses, employment, or personal finances.
The initiative reflects the Board’s broader strategy of integrating responsible gambling education into community development programmes, recognising that financial literacy and informed decision-making are critical to both entrepreneurial success and consumer protection.
By linking responsible gambling with economic empowerment, the NWGB continues to expand its public education efforts beyond traditional awareness campaigns, reinforcing its commitment to promoting safer gambling practices while supporting sustainable economic development across communities in the North West Province.
