Strong Oversight and Public Trust Essential for Lottery Transitions – NLC
The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) of South Africa has emphasized the
importance of strong governance, regulatory oversight, and operational continuity
in the transition between National Lottery operators.
Speaking at the Gaming Tech Summit Africa (GTSA) 2026 in Nairobi, NLC
Commissioner, Jodi Scholtz outlined the key elements required for a successful
operator handover, including uninterrupted lottery operations, protection of
player funds, continuity of funding for good causes and transparent stakeholder
communication.
Scholtz noted that effective transitions require early planning, strong collaboration
between outgoing and incoming operators, robust risk management, and
regulatory oversight to safeguard public confidence in the lottery system.
