Ghana’s NLA Targets Illegal Commission Payments Above 25%

In a statement signed by management, the Authority raised concerns that some operators have been exceeding the approved commission structure through bonuses, incentives, and promotional arrangements.

The NLA clarified that Section 28 of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722) empowers its Governing Board to determine commission rates payable to Lotto Marketing Companies and retailers.

According to the Authority, the current 25% commission rate came into effect in August 2024 following a sector review aimed at improving sustainability and boosting the competitiveness of Ghana’s lottery industry.

The directive signals the regulator’s renewed focus on compliance, market discipline, and maintaining a structured operational framework within the country’s lottery sector.
