Zambia Gaming Association Urges Compliance After Hichilema’s Re‑Election

ZAMBIA- The Zambia Gaming Association (ZGA) has welcomed the re‑election of President Hakainde Hichilema for a second term, urging gaming operators to strengthen regulatory compliance and meet their tax obligations. ZGA chairperson Noah Malungila stated in an interview with ZNBC News that Hichilema’s continued leadership could help grow and stabilize the country’s gaming industry.

Hichilema was declared president‑elect by the Electoral Commission of Zambia on August 18 after winning the August 13 presidential election, and he is scheduled to be sworn in for his second five‑year term on September 1. Malungila noted that since Hichilema first took office in 2021, the gaming sector has recorded notable improvements in regulatory compliance. He added that the renewed mandate reflects public confidence in his leadership and signals a continued commitment to peace, development, and economic progress.

He further called on industry participants to uphold the law by complying with regulations and meeting tax obligations. This comes against the backdrop of ZGA’s earlier enforcement efforts, including nationwide inspections announced in February to check licensing compliance and identify illegal gambling activity. At the time, ZGA warned that non‑compliant operators could face shutdowns or deregistration, with Malungila stressing that both local and foreign operators would be subject to inspection.
