Uganda Gaming Regulator Secures ISO 27001 Certification for Data Security

National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has secured ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, marking a major step in strengthening information security and regulatory governance within Uganda’s gaming sector.

The certification, announced on July 20, confirms that the regulator’s information security management system meets global standards for protecting sensitive data and managing information security risks. Issued by Certi-Trust, the accreditation applies to the board’s head office operations in Kampala, covering personnel, systems, and key information assets.

The certification process began on June 9, 2026, and will remain valid until June 8, 2029, subject to annual surveillance audits in line with international compliance requirements.

According to the NLGRB, achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification enhances its ability to implement risk-based controls, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure operational resilience across its activities.

As a globally recognised standard, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 provides a structured framework for organisations to identify, assess, and mitigate information security risks while safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
For the gaming industry, the certification strengthens the regulator’s capacity to securely manage licensing records, operator submissions, compliance data, and other critical information used in regulatory oversight.

The milestone reflects a broader trend across Africa’s gaming sector, where regulators are increasingly prioritising digital security, data protection, and compliance as part of modern regulatory frameworks.
