Senior Partner, Policy Vault, Ikechukwu Ofuani says Africa Industry leaders are not “playing catch up” when it comes to digital innovation. Instead, regulators across the continent often face challenges in understanding new technologies quickly enough to create effective legislation and compliance frameworks.
During a recent panel discussion at the GTSA 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, Ofuani highlighted the need for governments to adopt best practices from countries that have successfully leapfrogged in regulation. He also stressed that innovation and regulation must move hand in hand to ensure growth is well managed.
During the panel session, the discussion brought together industry players, regulators, and representatives of the wider sector where panelists described the exchange as “fruitful” and called for continued dialogue to strengthen Africa’s digital future.
