VIDEO: Gambia Tourism Board Calls for Modernized Gaming Laws
At the Gaming Tech Summit Africa (GTSA) 2026, Pierrette Mendy-Sar, Senior
Manager of Legal and Compliance at The Gambia Tourism Board, highlighted the
unique role her agency plays in regulating the country’s gaming industry. Unlike
other African nations with dedicated gaming authorities, The Gambia’s oversight
falls under the Tourism Board, mandated by the 2011 Act to license casinos and
online gaming operators.
Mendissa noted that while The Gambia’s market is still developing compared to
larger jurisdictions like Nigeria and Kenya, exposure to innovations at GTSA has
underscored the urgent need to amend the Gaming and Betting Act. She stressed
that updating the law is essential to align with industry realities and ensure The
Gambia keeps pace in responsible regulation and market growth.
