Cameroon Tightens Gambling Rules as 2026 AML Crackdown Targets Operators

According to a legal guidance report released on May 13 by Global Law Experts, betting and gaming operators are now under increasing pressure to strengthen customer verification systems, improve transaction monitoring, and boost suspicious activity reporting standards.

The report warns that operators must adopt “robust AML and Know-Your-Customer procedures” to combat illicit financial flows and align with both local and international compliance expectations.

The tougher compliance landscape is expected to impact sports betting platforms, online casinos, lottery operators, and other gaming businesses looking to capitalize on Central Africa’s booming digital gambling market.

Regulators are also tightening licensing requirements, with foreign gaming companies expected to establish locally registered entities or partnerships before entering the Cameroonian market.

Industry observers say the move comes as mobile money adoption continues to accelerate online betting activity across the region, driving both market growth and heightened regulatory scrutiny.

For gaming operators, the message is clear: compliance is no longer optional in one of Central Africa’s emerging betting hotspots.
